Project Description
This animation introduces students to the 4th lesson in an online pharmacology course—part of the HMX Fundamentals series. It is part of an 8-part series: One animation appears as a “hook” at the beginning of each lesson and introduces the concepts to be taught. All animations follow a relatable example of drug use, placing the concepts in a real-world context. Stylized characters and bright colors engage students as they begin to learn fundamental concepts of pharmacology.
This piece opens the lesson on metabolism and excretion, the final two phases of pharmacokinetics. Direct-to-camera video narration by the instructor leads into and out of the animation, strengthening its value as an integral part of the curriculum. The animation follows acetaminophen through relevant anatomical structures as it is metabolized and excreted. Careful consideration was given to the principles of multimedia learning and to the use of visuals and sound to direct focus and enhance didactic storytelling.
