Your 2011 AMI Conference in Preview

Our meeting this year is packed with opportunities for the learning and networking essential to our professional development. We'll also have ample opportunity to view and celebrate the finest work of our colleagues, beginning with the (new this year!) salon opening breakfast reception on Thursday, July 21 and ending with the annual awards dinner banquet on Saturday, July 23.

We are pleased to announce that Juan Velasco, Art Director at National Geographic magazine, will provide the keynote address on Thursday. Drew Berry, Biomedical Animator at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research in Melbourne, Australia, will deliver the Brödel Memorial Lecture titled "Science and Aesthetics of Biology through a Microscope." Full details for all the program sessions will be posted in May.

Full- and half-day workshops will be offered the Wednesday prior to the start of the program. New this year: Half-and quarter-day workshops will also be held Friday, July 22 for professionals who are interested in additional CEU-boosting educational experiences.

Wednesday, July 20

Choose from a variety of workshops exploring innovative and/or traditional art techniques, as well as business, which will be held at the Maryland Institute College of Art and the Schuler School of Fine Arts:

Thursday, July 21

The First Timers free workshop will be held during lunch on Thursday at the Tremont hotel.

Friday, July 22

Two-hour and half-day workshops will be held in the afternoon at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine's Armstrong Building, a new state-of-the-art learning facility.

Techniques Showcase

Our Tech Showcase is the place to learn new techniques from the niche experts we admire, and to view the new products and technology these colleagues employ. The Tech Showcase will be held in conjunction with the Friday afternoon workshops at the Armstrong Building on the Johns Hopkins Medical School campus. Full details for all the Tech Showcase sessions will be posted in May.

New this year: The AMI salon opening breakfast reception will kick off this year's meeting program on the morning of Thursday, July 21 in the Tremont Grand's breathtaking Edinburgh and Mirror rooms. The salon, showcasing the finest of this year's work by our colleagues in all media, will remain open until Saturday morning. That night, we will end our meeting with the annual awards banquet celebrating our salon, other professional, and student award recipients.
